DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) uses a low-dose X-ray to measure bone mineral density along with fat and lean tissue, so it is the reference standard when bone health is the clinical question. Styku is a 30-second, fully clothed 3D optical scan that measures body fat percentage, lean mass distribution, circumferences, and visceral fat estimation with no radiation at all, which makes it practical to repeat every few months. For tracking body composition over time, the repeatability matters more than the modality.
Weight on its own is one number and tells you nothing about what that weight is made of. A scan separates it into fat mass, lean tissue, and how both are distributed — including abdominal composition and left-versus-right differences.
